University of Utah Purchases 40-Foot Electric Bus from BYD

SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The University of Utah has placed an order for a 40-foot, all-electric transit bus with BYD Company Limited (BYD) the largest manufacture of all-electric buses in the world.

?We want to be in the forefront of technology that reduces the need for fossil fuels and has zero noise and zero pollution.?

BYD?s long-range, all-electric, ?GreenCity? buses (click for video) have been running worldwide in commercial fleet service for the last two years. BYD?s GreenCity fleets (which include both eTaxi?s and eBUSes) have accumulated over 14 million miles (or 23 million Km) using BYD?s internally developed electric drive technologies and Iron-Phosphate battery systems. BYD will supply one all-electric GreenCity bus to be retrofitted with WAVE?s wireless charging pad under the bus, developed by the Utah State University Energy Dynamics Laboratory, one of the leaders in wireless power transfer for vehicles. This technology will allow the BYD electric buses to pull up over an embedded charger in the asphalt with a maximum of 10 inches clearance and ?opportunity charge? the waiting bus with no moving parts or unsightly wires required. The funds to test a full in-service operation of WAVE?s wireless power charging system were provided through a Federal Transit Administration grant awarded to the Utah Transit Authority.

The new BYD 40-foot GreenCity electric bus will be the first shuttle to be allowed to run across the heart of campus ? a 1.7 mile loop route between the South Campus TRAX station north to the Warnock Engineering building with midway stops at the Student Union buildings. The bus runs will be timed to pick up passengers coming off eastbound trains on a 15-minute cycle. The driver will position the bus over the charging pad during several minute wait periods between runs. The embedded charge pads measure about three feet square and pose no danger to the public. Nothing protrudes above the surface to be damaged by cars, snow plows or vandals. At the core of the BYD?s GreenCity bus technology are BYD?s Iron Phosphate batteries. The BYD battery boasts the highest safety, longest service life and most environmentally friendly of all rechargeable chemistries.

"We will be the model of zero emissions rapid transit for the Nation," said Alma Allred, the University of Utah?s Director of Commuter services. "We want to be in the forefront of technology that reduces the need for fossil fuels and has zero noise and zero pollution."

"Our electric GreenCity bus has proven that it not only significantly reduces pollution in large cities, but it has also reduced operating expenses versus Natural-Gas and Diesel buses by up to 70% -- there are no internal-combustion engines to maintain and service?no engines to rebuild over the life of the vehicles?, stated Micheal Austin, Vice President of BYD America. ?BYD is proud to be a part of this wireless power transfer project with WAVE ,the University of Utah and the Utah Transit Authority ? we applaud their visionary leadership.?

College football: WVU, TCU to celebrate Big 12 entry

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The Fort Worth Stockyards will be more alive than usual Saturday night when Texas Christian University celebrates its official entry into the Big 12 Conference.

The Horned Frogs are inviting the public to the Rodeo Plaza at 11:45 p.m. and counting down the final moments before they enter their new conference at midnight.

Guests from TCU and the Big 12 will be on hand, as will cheerleaders and SuperFrog, the school mascot. There's even a Merle Haggard concert.

Proof again that everything is bigger in Texas.

West Virginia will mark the same occasion later in the day Sunday with a private picnic for its teams, coaches, administrators and other exclusive guests. They'll all spend some time with the Big 12's incoming commissioner, Bob Bowlsby, and enjoy hot dogs and hamburgers.

"I think a lot of people would say it's a historic day, but it's hard to say it's a historic day when you're in the moment," WVU Athletic Director Oliver Luck said. "At the end of the day, everyone is going to wake up Sunday and do what they do on a Sunday, but they'll come to a barbeque and maybe get to know the new commissioner a little.

"We've been working toward this Big 12 thing for a good seven, eight months now, but I do think as we get down the road a little, people will look back at July 1, 2012, and most folks will say, 'That really was history.' "

Technically, the Mountaineers became part of the Big 12 Oct. 28, but can't leave the Big East Conference, which has been their home in football since 1991 and all other sports since 1995, until Sunday. WVU will be the easternmost team in the Big 12 and the first from the Eastern Time Zone. ?

Getting here was far from easy, though, and the business of conference affiliation began almost as soon as Luck came aboard in June 2010. He was announced as the A.D. at his alma mater June 9, the day before it looked like the Big 12 was in peril as Nebraska left for the Big Ten and Colorado left for the Pac-12.

On June 14, Luck was introduced at a press conference at the football stadium as word came out that Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State would defy widespread chatter by staying in the Big 12 rather than go to the Pac-12.

"My gut told me there would continue to be movement," Luck said.

WVU never stopped tracking the activities, whether real or rumored, of other schools and conferences and was always attuned to what people were saying and thinking about the Mountaineers. Luck likened it to having a game plan for a big game and making adjustments on the go.

Last Sept. 17, Syracuse and Pittsburgh notified the Big East it was leaving for the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2014. A month later, WVU was headed to the Big 12.

"Thankfully," Luck said, "we were well-prepared, we had a good plan, we made the right adjustments and we followed a winning formula."

"Thankfully," Luck said, "we were well-prepared, we had a good plan, we made the right adjustments and we followed a winning formula."

And now, two invitations, two acceptances and two lawsuits later, it's just two days from being a reality. This is not a conclusion, though. Luck said it is a new beginning.

"It allows us, I think, to focus on things that we'd like to focus on, which is having the best athletic programs, having the best student-athletes to work with and the best coaches in the industry," he said. "It's our core business, but I think that certainly for me and many others in the athletic department and the president's office, we probably spent more time on this stuff than we did many other issues in the university. It's nice to focus on the right things now and move forward."

Luck's business remains the Big 12, but the aims have moved from getting into the conference to being successful in the conference. It's an ambitious goal that requires equally aggressive methods. WVU now has the ability to explore and implement those ideas.

"What gets me exited is that this allows us, and really, almost in a sense forces us, to really raise the bar - and not that we weren't trying hard before," Luck said. "But as we go into the Big 12, I think all of our programs, from football on down to rowing, are in a position now to where we look at everything we're doing and try to decide how we can do it even better.

"That covers everything from infrastructure to salaries to operations, the whole nine yards. There are some competitive sports in the Big 12 and we have a few sports, quite honestly, that haven't been competitive, baseball being one example and even volleyball, which is a massive step up from what we were experiencing previously. We've got a lot of work to do, but the great thing now is that we can focus on that and we don't have to worry about extraneous stuff."

Money, which was a factor in making the move to the Big 12, is the key in making it a successful move. Luck said the Mountaineers are fortunate to be doing this at a time when it's easier than ever to "unlock the value of our athletic department."

Scheduling football and basketball games is more lucrative than before and Luck's coaches are willing to play the games that grow the bank account. WVU is also in the process of bidding out its Tier 3 sponsorship and media rights and should come away with a multi-year contract worth millions of dollars annually.

Big 12 football has a stronger and more rewarding lineup of bowl games, including the newly created Champions Bowl partnership with the Southeastern Conference, and the four-team playoff that begins in 2014 will also help.

The payouts to conference members are significantly larger than what they were in the Big East. The Mountaineers aren't eligible for a full share of Big 12 revenue for their first three years, but will still make more from a 50-percent share this next year than they would have as a full-share member in the Big East.

If WVU is good, it will make money, but Luck acknowledges it will require spending money. The current athletic department budget is a little more than $60 million, but could reach $100 million in just a few years.

"My sense with that is six, eight, maybe nine years," Luck said. "It's difficult to pinpoint, but I think given what's happening at the national level with the new playoff format eventually meaning more dollars, with the stuff we're trying to do with our third-tier stuff and increasing the interest in our baseball program, it happens down the road a little bit.

"It may be 2018, 2020, 2022, but I think you'll see it. If you look at the number of schools that have crossed the $100 million mark, it's a longer list now than it was before and even a few years ago. At one point, it was just Texas and Ohio State. Now there are a lot more teams that have crept up in there and they're doing it with what I would call money from the outside."

Energy Take Classic 5.1

With so much of the focus these days on iPod speakers and wireless Bluetooth streaming, it's easy to forget there's a sizeable market for dedicated home theater systems. The Energy Take Classic 5.1 ($399.99 list) is a diminutive surround sound speaker set with a large sound. It's an excellent choice if you need a do-it-all speaker system for both home theater and music playback in this price range.

Design, Features, and Concept
For this review, I tested the Energy Take Classic 5.1 system with two home theater component receivers: a Denon AVR-1613 ($399.99, 3 stars) and a Yamaha RX-V473 ($449.99, 3.5 stars). Note that unlike most of the speakers we test, the Energy Take Classic 5.1 is unpowered. It's meant to be paired with a receiver, integrated amplifier, or separate pre-amp and amplifier components in a full-sized living room or den system. This is the more traditional way of putting together an audio system, which dates back decades, but I just wanted to point that out up front.

With that out of the way, let's get to the system itself. The black gloss vinyl finish looks clean, minimalistic, and sharp. Each satellite measures 6.9 by 4.1 by 4.1 inches (HWD) and weighs 2.9 pounds. The center channel measures 4.1 by 10.3 by 4.1 inches (HWD) and weighs 3.2 pounds. The powered subwoofer looks compact in photos, but it's surprisingly large in person, particularly when paired with the satellites; it measures 12.6 inches on all sides and weighs 19.7 pounds. All five satellites could sit on top of the subwoofer without hanging over the edges, just to give you an idea of the difference.

Each satellite contains a 3-inch poly-titanium woofer and a 0.75-inch hyperbolic aluminum dome tweeter. Energy rates the satellites' frequency response at 115 Hz to 20 KHz (+/- 3 dB). With a class-average efficiency rating of 89 dB, you wouldn't want to power them with a 10 watt tube amp, but that's not the crowd Energy is shooting for with this system. Just about any home theater receiver of recent vintage should have no problem powering the Take Classic 5.1. Meanwhile, the 200-watt bass reflex subwoofer features a 8-inch downward-firing, injection molded cone and a front-firing port. Energy rates the subwoofer's frequency response at 33 to 150 Hz (+/- 3 dB). There's a variable low pass filter you can set anywhere from 40 to 150 Hz, with an 18dB per octave roll-off.

Combination subwoofer and satellite systems (or "sub/sat systems," as they're commonly known) blend in with decor much better than full tower systems. They also tend to offer deeper, more powerful bass, and are natural choices for home theater systems where you may want a little more boost with the subwoofer's volume dial. Tiny satellite speakers also tend to do a better job of projecting a three-dimensional soundstage, assuming high-enough-quality drivers.Energy Take Classic 5.1

At the same time, sub/sat systems sometimes don't sound quite as natural or balanced as a properly voiced bookshelf or tower speaker; it's tricky to get the subwoofer's placement, crossover point, and volume level correct, as it changes from room to room and also varies on the listening position. And if the satellites are too small?the Energy system is pushing it here, at least on paper?you'll hear a hole in the upper bass and lower midrange region no matter what, simply because the satellite's woofer is too small to deliver enough full bodied response, and because at high crossover points, you'll be able to hear where the subwoofer is placed.

Performance and Conclusions
Fortunately, the Energy Take Classic 5.1 system avoids the above pitfalls. It delivers stellar performance, especially considering its reduced $400 price. In my tests, the satellites sounded clear and transparent, with a surprisingly natural-sounding midrange, and a reasonable level of detail for such a small speaker. The highs were airy and free of noticeable coloration, if a bit forward. I preferred the sound with the cloth grilles off, but that's a personal decision; I never find them 100 percent acoustically neutral, but I could be in the minority there. Down low, the subwoofer delivered serious extension and punch considering its size. With The Knife's "Silent Shout," our standard test music track for bass response, the system had no problem rendering the punchy 808-style kick drum and low-end synthesizer bass separately and distinctly.

To test the Energy Take Classic 5.1's home theater prowess, I used scenes from the the 2010 DTS Demonstration Blu-Ray Disc, and ran them through a Samsung BD-D5500 ($159.99, 3.5 stars) Blu-ray player and a Sony Bravia KDL-46EX620 ($809.99, 3.5 stars) LED-backlit HDTV. Arrow shots, voices, and horse gallops had sufficient clarity and distinction in Robin Hood (the 2010 film with Russell Crowe), and the Take Classic 5.1 had no problem rendering almost a dozen sound sources simultaneously throughout the sound field. In the DTS-encoded Despicable Me, the Take Classic 5.1 rendered the boom of the rocket ships and the low rumble while in flight, all while maintaining clear dialog and detailed sound effects throughout.

I initially ran into some trouble getting the right amount of kick out of the subwoofer, though that's typical of this type of system. Depending on the positioning, the subwoofer tended to sound a little soft and boomy, but only in terms of pure kick drum punch. The key in those situations is to turn the volume dial down, perhaps a little more than you'd expect, in order to get a balanced sound where the subwoofer doesn't call undue attention to itself. Ideally, though, spend the time to place it properly, as it pays off in dividends.

Overall, the Energy Take Classic 5.1 speaker system is an excellent buy, and could easily keep you happy for years. I'd be content just listening to music on it, which is not what I would say about many home theater-focused 5.1 subwoofer and satellite systems in the Take Classic 5.1's price range. A proper full-range tower or even bookshelf speaker will still deliver the ultimate in natural, balanced response, and don't need the serious kick and low-end extension of a powered subwoofer?NHT, Paradigm, and PSB are great places to start, although there are countless others. But for an ideal combination of home theater performance and music playback in this price range, the Take Classic 5.1 delivers.

professional power equipment - 5 Features To Look For In ...

There are many types of spreaders available for commercial use. Some of these professional spreaders are similar to non-commercial consumer models. There are a handful of features that professional spreaders can contain that will give superior results when being used for landscaping on large estates. Not all spreaders have all of the features that are available. Understanding which of these options is important for a given job can be important when selecting a unit.

Overall Construction

Professional spreaders are similar to any type of professional power equipment. They must be durable and able to withstand hours of constant use over the course of many years. A good quality model will contain a strong frame and axle that will last for a very long time. The hopper should be made from very strong plastic. Some designs include a metal hopper that can help to distribute some types of seeds or fertilizers more easily.

Multiple Outlets

Having more than one port in the bottom of the hopper to distribute seeds can generate a more consistent broadcast of materials. Single-port units are prone to irregular spreading that can require the operator to make several narrow passes over the same area. Multiple ports on the unit can help to create more complete coverage as the grains fall downward and bounce off of the impeller blades in different locations.

Calibration Mechanisms

Calibrating professional spreaders usually involves the ability to adjust the distances between the ports and the impellers blades and sometimes the drop rate of the ports. This can be an important feature because it allows the operator to adjust the machine before every use so that normal wear and tear does not reduce the effectiveness of the unit.

Multiple Distribution Patterns

Landscapers who are using professional spreaders usually need to distribute several different types and sizes of materials. This can include large pesticide grains to small grass seeds. The best way to help ensure that all materials are distributed evenly and effectively is to look for a unit that has multiple distribution patterns. This is usually adjusted through a plate between the hopper port and the impeller blades. A range of different patterns will increase the usefulness of the spreader, regardless of what material is in the hopper.

Overspray Protection

Some landscapers might want to look for units that have small guards on the side. These guards are designed to stop granules from being tossed too far into the field. This type of overspray protection can create more accurate seeding patterns in narrow areas such as along a tree line or between garden fixtures.

Marc Leishman shoots 62 to win Travelers

CROMWELL, Conn. (AP) ? Marc Leishman's victory at the Travelers Championship came hours after he watched fellow Australian Marcus Fraser lose in a playoff on the European Tour.

Both are coached by Denis McDade and Leishman said he wanted to give McDade at least one win Sunday.

"That was actually a little bit of incentive for me," said Leishman, who earned his first Tour win. "I was watching before I teed off, Frase on TV. (I was) trying to get one for Denis, so it was good to be able to be able to do it."

Leishman shot an 8-under 62, but didn't secure his first Tour win until Charley Hoffman blew a two-stroke lead on the final two holes.

The 28-year-old began the day six strokes behind the leaders, but made eight birdies in a bogey-free round. He finished at 14-under 266.

"I didn't think it was going to be enough," he said. "Golf is a funny game, a really funny game."

Hoffman was 16 under heading to the 17th hole, but pushed his tee shot right and into the water. He made a double bogey, and bogeyed the 18th after failing to get up and down from a greenside bunker.

"When it's said and done, obviously a bad finish and a bad taste in my mouth, but you learn from it," he said. "Any time you put yourself in contention, you learn from that."

Hoffman closed with a 66 to tie for second with Masters champion Bubba Watson, who shot a 65.

Leishman became the fifth player in seven years to break through with their first tour win at River Highlands, joining Fredrik Jacobson last year, Watson in 2010, Hunter Mahan in 2007 and J.J. Henry in 2006.

Leishman's 62 was the lowest score in a final round by a champion on tour this season.

"You'd almost rather make a few birdies coming in to win, rather than have someone hand it to you," he said. "But having said that, I'm not going to give this back or anything."

Watson made a run at the lead on the front nine, with four birdies. But he had to scramble on the back nine, saving par on the 15th after putting his tee shot in the water. He also made par on 17 after hitting his second shot over the water and onto the green from the rough.

"Just didn't finish it off on the back," he said. "I made my run and just didn't kind of really have anything after that."

Roland Thatcher, who was tied for the lead after three rounds, began his day with three bogeys on the first six holes. He seemed like an afterthought, until Hoffman's collapse. But he made an eagle on the par-5 13th after hitting his second shot within 15 feet of the pin.

He came to No. 18 with a chance to force a playoff, but put his second shot into a greenside bunker and bogeyed the hole.

"You never want to take the lead going into Sunday and then need two birdies on the last two holes to catch up," he said.

He and fellow co-leader Brian Davis both shot 70, putting them in a group at 12 under with Tim Clark and John Rollins.

Clark, who won the 2010 Players Championship, had elbow surgery last August and had missed the cut in five of the previous nine tournaments he played this season.

The course record at River Highlands is 60, set last year by Patrick Cantlay as an amateur. The 20-year-old missed the cut this year in his first professional tournament.

Rory Sabbatini finished six shots behind the leader, but took home a gold Rolex after making his first hole-in-one on tour. His shot on the 161-foot 16th hole hit and spun left into the hole.

"It felt really good coming off the club," he said. "It was just a question of having the right yardage. I kind of joked in the middle of the ball flight, and I said, 'Be the right one and go in the hole.'"

Hunter Mahan shot a career-low 61 and tied for 11th.

Mahan, in the first pair of the day, joked that he was just trying to play fast and not hold up the field. He opened with five pars before making nine birdies on the final 13 holes.

"Your adrenaline is pumping more than you are nervous, because nothing really bad can happen," he said. "I was just trying to hit it close and make a putt."

For-profit colleges could lose federal student aid

Former students in career-training programs at dozens of for-profit institutions have had so much trouble paying off their loans that the schools could lose access to federal student aid if they don't improve, new data from the U.S. Department of Education finds.

The Education Department reported that at 193 programs at 93 schools, students were unable to meet any of three measures under the agency's new "gainful employment" rule. The new regulations, announced by the Obama administration last year, are aimed at making sure students in career-training programs at for-profit, nonprofit and public institutions are able to get a job and pay off their student loans when they graduate.

The programs include Everest College's paralegal training in Salt Lake City and more than 40 other programs operated by Corinthian Colleges, one of the nation's largest higher education companies; chef training at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Austin, Texas; and the medical assistant program at Sanford-Brown College in McLean, Va.

"Career colleges have a responsibility to prepare people for jobs at a price they can afford," Education Secretary Arne Duncan said. "Schools that cannot meet these very reasonable standards are on notice: invest in your students' success, or taxpayers can no longer invest in you."

The Education Department considers former students "gainfully employed" if the program they participated in meets one of three metrics: The estimated annual loan payments for a typical graduate does not exceed 30 percent of his or her discretionary income or 12 percent of total earnings; or at least 35 percent of former students are repaying their loans.

"These aren't the strictest standards to live up to," said Stephen Burd, a senior policy analyst at the New America Foundation, a nonpartisan public policy institute. That there are programs at 93 schools that don't meet any of the three "should raise alarms, and the fact we aren't doing anything about them for a long while from now is worrisome."

Steve Gunderson, president and CEO of the Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities, which represents for-profits, said the department's regulation doesn't accurately measure the services provided by career colleges and could result in thousands of students losing access to postsecondary education.

"America faces a demand for eight to 23 million workers with postsecondary education over the next decade, but this regulation seeks to only impose a series of faulty numerical measures that ignore the economic reality of inner-city and rural areas, education's long-term benefits and the will of the Congress," he said.

He said some schools have not received rates for all of their programs and that there have been reports that student and loan files are incorrect and that the department does not have the right data on the amount of federal debt for students or schools.

Twelve percent of all students in higher education attend a for-profit institution, yet they represent 46 percent of all student loan dollars in default. While students who attend community colleges usually do not have to borrow money to enroll, the median federal student loan debt for a student earning an associate's degree at a for-profit was $14,000.

Meanwhile, for more than a quarter of for-profit schools, 80 percent of their revenue consists of federal student aid, the Department of Education said in announcing the finalized rule last year.

Many non-traditional, adult students attend for-profit schools because of their flexible schedules, but critics say they have weaker student outcomes and that quality varies widely. Twenty-eight percent of students who enrolled in a bachelor's degree program at private, for-profit institutions in the fall of 2004 graduated within six years. The six-year graduation rate for a student at a private nonprofit institution, meanwhile, was double, at 65 percent. At public institutions, the graduation rate was 56 percent.

The department has estimated 8 percent of all career programs would fail to meet the three benchmarks at some point in time, while only 2 percent would eventually lose student aid eligibility.

The data being released Wednesday covers 3,695 programs in 1,335 schools over a two-year period. Of those, 35 percent met all three measurements; 31 percent met two; 29 percent met one and 5 percent did not meet any of the three metrics.

Kent Jenkins Jr., a spokesman for Corinthian Colleges, said the vast majority of their programs are in compliance with the regulation. He said that the department evaluated 637 of their training programs and that 93 percent complied with the regulation.

Of those that failed all three metrics, Jenkins said they have eliminated or are in the process of eliminating 13. He said they believe another 21 programs would be in compliance using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

"That leaves a very small number of programs with issues, and we will of course take actions to address those," Jenkins said.

Burd said many had expected the number who failed all three of the benchmarks to be much higher. Nonetheless, he said the data raises serious questions about the quality of training that students are receiving at institutions that didn't meet any of the benchmarks.

"If we're seeing they're failing all three metrics and we're not taking any action related to that, it's putting students in harm's way," he said.

All of the data to be released Wednesday is strictly for informational purposes and to give the schools an opportunity to review and work on improving their student outcomes, the department said. Enforcement will begin this fall, though schools would need to fail for three out of four years in order to lose access to federal student aid.

Investing in Master Limited Partnerships: Earn Higher Returns and ...

Master Limited Partnerships Beat the Tax Man

Unlike ordinary stocks, MLPs offer a significant tax shield for investors.

You see, like?real estate?investment trusts, MLPs are pass-through entities that transfer profits and losses to individual unit holders.

But, because of depreciation allowances, 80% ? 90% of the distribution you receive is considered a?return of capitalby the IRS. So you don?t pay taxes immediately on that portion of the distribution.

In other words, 80% ? 90% of the distribution you receive is tax-deferred. The remaining 10% -20% is taxed as regular income.

But here?s the kicker.

You?re not taxed on the return of capital until you sell the units. What?s more, those payments are used to reduce your cost basis on the MLP.

Let?s suppose you purchase an MLP for $50 and receive $5 in distribution payments, $4.50 of which is considered a return of capital. You pay no income tax on that $4.50.

In this case, only the remaining 50 cents is taxed as regular income. Meanwhile, after one year, your cost basis drops to $45.50 ($50 minus $4.50).

Assuming the distribution remains the same the next year, your cost basis would drop again to $41.00. And so on?and so on.

Eventually, your cost basis could go to zero, leaving you with zero tax liability on 80% -90% of your returns.

And if you decide to sell the units sooner, the capital gains are taxed at the more favorable long-term capital gains tax rate-a tremendous benefit, especially for older investors.

MLPs do complicate your tax preparations, so you may find it easier to consult a tax professional. But the additional expense should be well worth it.

Investing in Master Limited Partnerships?

Explosive growth in shale and other unconventional gas production has given MLP investors a wave of new opportunities. That should allow them to continue to expand distributions to investors.

However, the two most popular exchange-traded funds (ETFs) available ? the Alerian MLP ETF (NYSE:?AMLP) and JPMorgan Alerian MLP Index ETN (NYSE:?AMJ) ? pass their profits through as ordinary dividends, so you lose the big tax advantages.

Instead, you?re better off taking a look at one of the following high-yielding MLPs:

Enterprise?Products Partners LP(NYSE:?EPD)?just raised its distribution for the 30th consecutive quarter. Growth in the Rocky Mountains and the Eagle Ford Shale has pushed natural gas production to record levels. Its current yield of 5.26% and steady record of boosting distributions makes it an attractive target for long-term investors.

Linn Energy?(Nasdaq:?LINE)is involved in the actual production of oil and gas and has around 2.8 trillion cubic feet of gas-equivalent reserves, assuring future production growth. Best of all, Linn is fully hedged through the end of 2013 and more than two-thirds hedged through 2014-2015. Whether gas is at $2 or $15, the company should be able to maintain its payout of 8.06%.

Investors should also consider:?Plains All American Pipeline LP?(NYSE:?PAA),?Enduro Royalty Trust?(NYSE:NDRO), and?Magellan Midstream Partners?(NYSE:?MMP).

Either way, investing in master limited partnerships is hard to beat.

Cyborg system stifles your need to drink water

5 hrs.

The Japanese design studio Takram was asked to design a water bottle for people to use after a hypothetical future environmental disaster. Takram, imagining what a world would be like with rising sea levels and radioactive disasters, thought that we probably wouldn?t be carrying around water bottles. Instead, they designed an entirely new organ system, to be implanted in the body, that would mean we used less water in the first place.

Its solution, called the Hydrolemic System, involves both harvesting more moisture from the air than our current unmodified bodies are capable of, and also doing more to retain the water we have. The company imagines that system would require us to drink 0.1 cups of water a day.

Inserts that go in our noses convert moisture in the air we breathe into water, and other inserts at the ends of our renal and digestive systems keep water from leaving by those routes. A collar on our neck helps prevent perspiration by turning our body heat into electricity, so it doesn?t make us perspire, losing precious liquid.

Click through the slide show for more details.

Let's?hope for a world in which our designers are just designing water bottles with more convenient handles, rather than ones you have to go to the hospital to have installed.

INDIA: Spurt in child abuse prompts helpline to alert parents

TNN Jun 22, 2012, 04.30AM IST

PUNE: Childline Pune, the 24-hour helpline for children in distress, issued an alert to parents and guardians on Thursday about growing child sexual abuse in the city and suggested ways to protect the children.

"Dnyana Devi Childline receives child sexual abuse reports and the number keeps growing. In the last five days, we have had to deal with six cases and received reports of four more. Of these, three were repeated rape/molestation by fathers and two by brothers, which prompted us to issue the alert," said Anuradha Sahasrabuddhe, director Dnyana Devi Childline, in a statement.

Sahasrabuddhe has appealed to all parents to carefully monitor their children and keep them secure. "Ensure such communication between yourself and the child that the child feels confident and is motivated to share every little detail of whatever happens in his/her life each day. Empower children by telling them about possible dangerous situations and what to do," she said. It is not difficult to tell children about what can happen, she added.

Parents must accept that the child was not at fault and reassure the child. "Both boys and girls can be abused and child sexual abuse case victims range from newborns to every possible age group," Sahasrabuddhe said.

There were adequate legal provisions and other facilities to help the child. "If these cases are hushed up in the name of family honour, this amounts to injustice to the child and not only harms his/her trust in the parent but also sets the culprit free to abuse other children. The abused child needs firm parental support and counselling," she said.

Sahasrabuddhe said that parents and adults also needed to monitor their own behaviour.

"It is a proven fact that children never lie about such incidents. Any change in normal behaviour pattern of the child should be considered a warning signal. Appropriate age specific sex education that includes gender references help children control their behaviour and empowers them to protect themselves," she said. She has also appealed to the judiciary, advocates and police not to help perpetrators.

Dnyana Devi Childline would provide any guidance/help required to parents to protect their children. "A resource book for parents is also available with us. Parents can call us on toll free number 1098 (call centre) or on direct lines 25540156/25540026/9767187263", she said.

Google Play Store hints Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, coming soon to Galaxy Nexus

Google?s upcoming update for its mobile Android platform may not be far, we have been hearing about it since a long time. Now the Google Play store has revealed that the Galaxy Nexus would be the first existing device which will get the new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update.

The Google Play listing for the Galaxy Nexus says, ?The latest smartphone from Google, soon the first phone with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.? Along with it Google has uploaded a low resolution image of what seems to the Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It is a poor image and since it is quite hard to decipher the key changes which will be introduced in the updated UI.

However there are some new changes which you can spot, first being the stock wallpaper, secondly there might be new stock icons and probably a tweaked Google search bar which seems to dock at the top of screen.

There is not information as to how long will it take to reach the device, although we can expect more information on the same at Google I/O which will start on June 27, where Google is also expected to launch its first Nexus tablet. The first Nexus tablet is rumored to be manufactured by Asus, and will come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

One major problem Google will face with the new Android update getting it on existing Android devices. At the moment less than 10 percent of Android devices are running the latest Android 4.0 ICS, which suggests that the previous generation Android smartphones may take quite a lot of time to get updated to this version.
