Philadelphia Thinks Pink For Breast Cancer Awareness Month ...

Almost 100 landmarks throughout the area are wearing their breast cancer awareness pride on their sleeves, including the Cira Centre, Love Park and Battleship New Jersey. (Top photo courtesy CBS Philly: Lights for the Cure, bottom right courtesy Komen for the Cure, bottom left courtesy Battleship)

The stunning Philadelphia skyline from time to time throws its luminary power behind a specific cause and related color.

In January, the Center City skyline went yellow in support of the Alex?s Lemonade Stand Lemon Ball. During July 4th, the Benjamin Franklin Bridge often turns red, blue and white, and when the Eagles nab a big playoff win, it?s been known to transform into emerald green.

This month, October, is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Accordingly, the Philadelphia skyline in all its glory is thinking pink. Check out a great video here of the ?Lights For The Cure? Skyline Tour.

Launched in 2002 by CBS 3 and the Philadelphia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, ?Lights For The Cure? was the area?s first public service campaign to use the lighting of buildings and landmarks to promote a cause. The campaign now includes nearly 100 participating buildings and landmarks in the Philadelphia area and South Jersey.

Want to drink pink? Throughout October, Tria is donating $1 from every glass of Cava Rosat sold to Living Beyond Breast Cancer. Meanwhile, for October the Four Seasons mixologist has blended up the ?Pheeling Hope,? a pink-hued libation, with proceeds benefitting the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania.

A few other breast cancer awareness support opportunities: all the month?s donation to Reading Terminal?s Philbert the pig (decked out in a pink bowtie for October!) will go towards Komen Philadelphia; Del Frisco?s is hosting a special dinner on October 17 during which $50 from each $250 plate will be donated to BreastCancer.org; and Adolf Bicker Spa/Salon is holding a Bake Salon on Friday, October 5 and Friday, October 26, giving all proceeds to the American Cancer Society.
